“How am I going to tell this to Papa?" Sybil asked Tom.

"Or your mother?" Tom said.

Sybil looked at Tom. "I am not worried about her reaction. Mama will understand, she will be hurt…….." Sybil stopped. "Oh no."

Tom took Sybil’s hands in his. "What is it?"

"Mama is still healing from the divorce, and now I am adding even more hurt on her."

"She is a strong woman."

Sybil let out a deep sigh. "We do not have a choice. We need to tell them. Let's start with Mama."

Cora watered the flowers in the garden. She had found a cosy home in Richmond. Close to the river Thames, where she made daily walks. Although she was on her own, she was happy here.

All three girls had their own room, something that was especially important for Cora. They did not use those rooms a lot, but she needed them to have their own private place.

She walked towards her front door when the doorbell sounded. "Sybil darling, Tom, I did not know you were coming?"

"We did not tell you. Can we come in, or are you busy?" She looked at her mother’s clothes. She was wearing dungarees with a simple t-shirt underneath. She had never seen her mother like this before, but she liked to see her free spirit come out. She had always known her mother was like her.

Cora brushed her hands over her clothes, to get the dirt off them. "I always have time for you. Come in. Tea?"

They sat down in the garden. It was lovely spring weather.

"We have some news." Sybil started.

Cora looked from Tom to Sybil. "You are pregnant?" She stated.

Sybil coloured.

"Oh darling, that is wonderful." Cora jumped up and wrapped her arms around her.

"We have more news. We are also married." Sybil held out her hand and showed her ring to her mother.

Cora took her hand without a word. She did not know how to react to this news. "I think I have to congratulate you two with your marriage."

Sybil wrapped her fingers around Cora’s hand. "You are not upset?" She asked.

Cora looked up and contemplated for a second before she answered. Of course, she was upset that her daughter got married without her mother present. Cora had always dreamed of her girls' wedding days. But Sybil and Tom must have had a good reason to marry in secret. "I am not upset, darling. I would have loved to be there. But no, I am not upset."

"We thought it was best not to have a big wedding because of his Lordship and your situation." Tom said, putting his hand on Sybil's knee.

"You can call him Robert. There is no need for you to be formal. And please also start calling me Cora. I am your mother-in-law now."

"Do you mean that, Mama?" Sybil asked.

"Darling, I understand and agree that it was not the time for a big wedding. I also understand that you two wanted to be married well before this news will announce itself." Cora put her hand on Sybil’s belly. "How far along are you?" She felt a slight bulge she thought.

"I am well into my fourth month and am starting to show a little already."

Cora kissed Sybil’s cheek and got up to hug Tom. She kissed both his cheeks. "Welcome to the family, Tom." She looked at Sybil. "And do I need to call you Mrs. Branson now?

"May I present to you, Lady Sybil Branson née Crawley." Tom said with a wide smile.

Robert put down his pen and looked at his watch. He got an instant smile on his face. Mary would come soon with Matthew. She was spending her days more at his place, then at home. He could not blame her, since Cora had left, he was not the nicest person to be around. He did not drink, he knew Mrs. Hughes did keep track of his drinking and he was thankful. Being drunk would not improve anything about the situation. He had to accept that Cora was gone and would never come back. According to Rosamund´s reports she was as happy as she could be in Richmond. He saw pictures of the house she found, and he was surprised by the size. He had thought she would buy something bigger. But there was exactly enough room for the four of them. Cora and her girls. He felt a lump in his throat. it would never be them and their girls anymore. Of course, he was happy Cora was able to go on with her life. He only hoped she would miss him too, as he missed her incredibly. There was not a day that he did not want to walk to her sitting room or walk into her bedroom. Since Cora had left, he let one of the guest bedrooms remodel, to a room for him. He could not sleep in his dressing room, and he tried sleeping in Cora´s old bedroom, but those nights he did not got a wink of sleep. He was tossing and turning and reaching for her hand. He still smelt her smell on the pillow. Although he had not been in her room for weeks now, so he was not sure her smell would still be there.

"What are you dreaming of?" Mary's voice sounded.

Robert shook up. "Good to see you Mary, Matthew." He got up to shake his hand. "Ready to dive into the world of Downton?"

Matthew nodded. "Very much ready. We should start with the books?"

"Books? What do you mean by that?" Robert asked.

"Matthew, maybe you should Papa be the lead in this?" Mary was not sure her father would like Matthew’s approach.

"I am sorry, I am so eager to start, that I want to go to fast. With the books I mean the records off how the financial status of the estate is. But Mary is right, you are the expert here and I will follow."

Robert frowned; he did not like it when other people messed with the numbers. He had everything in order according to himself and he did not need anybody to help him. He took a deep breath because he knew he needed to learn to let things go. In the end, Matthew would see the numbers. If he really intended to share the running of this estate. But for that there must first be a marriage he thought.

random thought abt shinkane and ppp spoilers :

yes, the director said that there isn’t any romance between akane and kougami. but when i look at it now, i’m rly not surprised

especially when we take into account their differing ideals on justice AND the society they live in with the sybil system and all that

noww ofc i still ship them aaand ofc i believe that they love each other, but i think the only way they would actually be together is in another universe.. with no sybil system

not to mention (from the spoilers i’ve seen) the scene when kougami kills someone (forgot his name 😅) and akane is upset bc she failed to stop him again. it’s exactly like how it was in season 1. their beliefs are just so different that i can’t imagine them being together unless akane or kougami changes their beliefs which obvi would never happen

(btw, this isn’t meant to like diss shinkane or anything. i hope it didn’t come off that way because they’re my otp!! again, i still think they love each other 😅 but i just feel like they will never truly be together til they’re on the same page regarding justice)

now i do hope we get a season 4 though. or maybe another movie. that way, they could possibly explore more about kougami and akane’s relationship after her release from prison! if they make another season, the main focus most likely won’t be on akane and kougami, but i can only hope that we get a few scenes of them together (AND GINOZA!! but the tl;dr of it is they both like it, but when they were in their catching feelings phase, jacob really liked it because he would pretend to be asleep when syb would kiss him good morning/goodbye before she slipped out of the vets center in the wee hours of the morning (because if she knew he knew she did that she would stop lol)

ough i mean i feel like it's something they'll both do. jacob gently swipes his thumb over her cheekbone, she takes his wrist and presses a kiss to his palm. jacob is fucking into syb and she'll reach up to cradle his face in her hands, he'll grab one of her wrists and kiss her palm. it's one of their smaller, more tender and intimate gestures. also something that they only ever do in private

33. Who would they love to go on a double date with?

this is such a cop-out answer and i'm sorry but i really don't think they're the type of people who really do double-dates. in their canon-verse (katc) by the time they actually "officially" become a couple, like...nobody likes them. i mean. there might be a handful of resistance members still willing to talk to syb but for the most part she burned those bridges. they r...friendless losers <3 (besides i don't think jacob likes it when he has to share syb's attention with other people, the possessive bastard) in a no cult au i still think this applies, less because no one likes them, but more because i don't think there's much overlap in their friend groups so it would just be...awkward...so they just go on dates where it's just the two of them

Let's break down the two Toms hehe

How I feel about this character:

Thomas - I love him. He was my favourite character from the first moment he appeared on screen, ever since episode one. My love for him only increased throughout the seasons. I think he is one of the most complex characters on the show and he has such a big arc, he changes alot from when we first meet him in season one. I truly started feeling for him in season three - when the whole sleep-kiss fiasco happened. He wants to be loved and accepted so bad. All I want to do is smother him and tell him he will be okay and that he's loved.

Tom - I also love him. Although, my love for him grew upon my second rewatch and after reading the fic And I For Him by dementian. It deserves a mention. I think his character arc is interesting, albeit a bit dissapointing in the end. I enjoyed his revolutionary spark and the way he used to speak up against the aristocraty. Unfortunately, that spark seemed to have dimmed by the end of season 6. Alas I think he has great moments and brings something refreshing to the show and the Crawleys.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Thomas - Tom <3 I am not even sorry. The wasted potential, not to mention the amazing chemistry Allen and Rob had off-screen. Still waiting for their gay bar in America spin-off smh.

Tom - Thomas obviously. But I did love the Sybil/Tom romance as well. The first time I watched the series I was rooting for them. Her death destroyed me and so did Tom's grief.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Thomas - For Thomas I have many, I love him with Baxter. The older sister and younger brother dynamic is just chef's kiss. ALSO Thomas and the kids please, especially Sybbie & George <333. Can't leave out Mrs Hughes, who has a soft spot for Thomas 100%.

Tom - Obviously Sybbie <33. I also love the sibling-like dynamic Tom and Mary share. Especially, seeing how much their relationship grew over the course of the series. Can't forget Henry who is Tom's canon man-crush and you cannot convince me otherwise. Special mention to Mrs Hughes here as well, because she helped him through some stuff.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

Thomas - I liked his ending as the butler of Downton. I know there are many who would have preferred he left service, which I kind of wanted as well, but I like the idea of Thomas finally belonging. Like he actually feels wanted and loved by the downstairs family. I am convinced most secretly like him better over Carson as the butler.

Tom - I can't get into his marriage with Lucy, at least not after the first movie. The fact he gets to inherit an estate is just ughh. Let's not forget that ending for him goes against everyhting he used to stand for :))) If anything I would have liked it better if he got together with a woman of the working class like Laura Edmunds if not Thomas.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

I feel like the answer is obvious, but I wished Thomas and Tom had ended up together. The fact they never bonded over their shared love for Sybil - not to mention Sybbie - is a shame. Even a friendship between the two would have been a joy to watch. Wasted potential I tell you. HOWEVER I heard rumors for a Downton Abbey movie 14 where Tom and Thomas will finally move to America together after realizing they love each other. They take Sybbie with them and become one happy family <33 Totally real. Allen told me himself.

she’s a solitary creature, often isolating herself for days at a time. people exhaust her and she has a difficult time understanding their motives, while they have a difficult time understanding her. she’s often perceived as rude or cold, and can sometime have outbursts when she’s overwhelmed. sybil doesn’t understand or interrogate her emotions and they can very quickly dominate her mind, making her quick to anger when something little annoys her.

when she was coming of age, she began traveling under an alias, allowing herself to indulge in that madness within her. it was then that she laid with ryon allyrion and became aware she was with child months later. she revealed to ryon she was a targaryen and he went before the king, refusing to marry her but offering a space in godsgrace to raise their child. sybil’s father gave her an ultimatum: give up the child to the seven and maintain her place in king’s landing, or go to godsgrace in exile from her home, keeping the child a secret all the while.

she cried the entire journey to godsgrace, watching her sisters disappear as the keep grew smaller and smaller.

sybil is extremely prideful. to her, that is all she has left now that her prospects have been ruined. despite not enjoying being a princess, she feels trapped in godsgrace as one of the many, three other women raising three other children for lord allyrion as well. she is well-versed in sulking and brooding, often hiding in corners in ryon’s home with a book or some other small activity.

she could never bring herself to relax in godsgrace, but the birth of adora did bring her some relief for a little bit. the first few years living in ryon’s home was tense for both of them, often resulting in arguments where both of them sulk on opposite ends of the grounds.

ryon is kind to her, she knows this. living in godsgrace is the best option for her, she knows this too. but she cannot bring herself to allow enjoyment of this change. sybil despises change and she holds fast to this wrath, letting it permeate everything she does.

it is made worse when she’s told of ryon’s affair with alyse, the resulting argument lasting days and many hurtful words exchanged. with her eldest sister a queen of the iron islands, she feels stuck in keeping this secret for him, and she’s envious of their love. she does not love ryon, but she wants to be wanted. she wants to have the capability of loving and being loved in return. she wishes that for herself more than anything, and she sees alyse as a symbol that she will never have it, the hatred for her festering over the years.

to her, love is finite. that is how she saw her mother and father growing up. you could not say you loved someone too much, or it would run out. it is through this worldview that she views ryon and the women he keeps in his manor; she cannot comprehend that he holds the same love for them, believing herself to be unimportant purely because the division of that love. this also informs her view of alyse. if ryon loves alyse more than anything, than sybil must mean almost nothing to him.

sybil is deeply depressed, although not many people realize this because she’s been very reserved and a bit dour her entire life. while she’s distant to the father of her child, she’s very close with adora, who is now eleven years old. they still sleep in the same bed and often spend all day together. adora is one of her true friends in this world, save for a few guards back in king’s landing and her sisters.

she taught adora archery, axe throwing, and knife throwing, as well as acrobatic horseriding, an activity she adored as a child. occasionally, sybil will accompany ryon on his travels, especially when they take him to essos or other areas of dorne. she finds the dornish often do not recognize her, which allows her to travel freely.

for many years, ryon attempted to find sybil a suitor to mellow her out a bit, but she refused them all for increasingly small reasons. she is obsessed with the idea of finding someone who does not care she is a princess, but also holds her in high regard because of it.

it took a lot for her to ask ryon if she could accompany him to the coronation. she had not been in king’s landing since adora was born, but she rarely had the chance to visit anyway. it’s difficult for her to be back home and she finds herself leaning on ryon more than she ever did back home, often sleeping in his bed if only to feel safer.
